Constructed in 1903 the building is one of seven libraries in the city built using money donated by Andrew Carnegie.
The library’s new freestanding lift shaft ascends to the first floor was designed as a feature artwork, utilising powder-coated steel cladding depicting the title of some of the staffs favourite seminal literary works.

Handpainted by Rowena Martinich, each one is a unique one-of-a-kind piece. Blurring art and design the ceramics are made of high fired stonware, hand painted and finished with a glossy epoxy resin. Martinich and Carran are two designers who work independently and collaboratively with each other.

Designed by Teresa van Dongen, who studied Biology at the University of Amsterdam, has created a lamp using bacteria that emit a glow when oxygen and movement are introduced to the environment.

German Designer Ruben Beckers has created a table that weights only 4.5 kilograms by using a grid system of very thin wooden strips to support the slender table top.

Made of Poplar wood, the legs of the chair made of solid wood are bent into the slots of the grid to connect it to the top section.

Created by Big Lazy Robot in Barcelona as a spec film that took over two years to create.

They sought to give the designers free reign in creation that is not usually found in paid projects.

Vase & Leuchte designed by Miriam Aust, combines to opposing forces of nature and contains them inside a single glass house.
Seeking to present a scientific or artificial environment for plants, she fits the light bulb inside a handblown glass beaker.
When lit the plant roots create a very interesting shadows and add a softer organic element to the more scientific appearance of the vase.

Designed by Basten Leijh and presented at the Dutch Design Week, the bike is made of two pieces of layered plywood covered in a 6 layers of weather-resistant varnish. Held together by aluminum beams and requires no welding to assemble.
